After President Russell M. Nelson passed away in September, Dallin H. Oaks was chosen to assume church leadership, and the apostle D. Todd Christofferson was appointed to the First Presidency, leaving an open position in the Quorum of the Twelve.
The Church announced today that Elder Gérald Caussé will be the newest apostle. He was called on Thursday, November 6, 2025, and has been ordained by President Dallin H Oaks and the other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said, “He’s always been in the center of my life. I know Jesus Christ lives. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”
Elder Gérald Caussé was born on May 20, 1963, in France. He moved to Paris when he was 19 and served one year in the military. He married his wife and childhood friend, Valérie Babin, in 1986 in the Bern, Switzerland, Temple, and has five kids.
At 62 years old, Elder Gérald Caussé is the youngest apostle out of all members of the Quorum of the Twelve and the First Presidency, but he has significant experience in the Church.
According to the Church, Caussé is a second-generation Latter-Day Saint, and his parents were baptized when he was six months old. 62-year-old Caussé has served as a Presiding Bishop, who manages matters like humanitarian aid, welfare programs, and organization of membership records.
He also previously served as a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric between 2012 and 2015 and as a General Authority Seventy from 2008-2012.
When he was a General Authority, Caussé moved from Germany to the United States, and he has praised his children for enduring those difficult moves.
“That was not an easy thing to do,” Elder Caussé said. “We admire them for being so consecrated. They never complained. They moved with us and changed life. And those who stayed in France, we admire them for not having their parents nearby for now 17 years.”
His ministry has also included several talks directed to younger Church members, including a 2023 conference when he spoke to young Latter-Day Saint professionals about environmental sustainability.
