Big Y’s Sack Hunger campaign kicks off to fight food insecurity this holiday season
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Big Y’s annual Sack Hunger campaign is underway, raising funds to combat food insecurity across Connecticut and Massachusetts.

The campaign supports four regional food banks: the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, Worcester County Food Bank, The Greater Boston Food Bank, and Connecticut Foodshare. For a $5 donation, customers can provide 10 meals to those in need, with donations accepted at Big Y supermarkets, Table & Vine Fine Wines and Liquors, or online until December 10th.

In addition to direct donations, Big Y is enhancing its fundraising efforts by donating a portion of proceeds from various department sales. From November 13th to November 19th, proceeds from the Produce and Floral departments will contribute to the campaign. The company will also donate a portion of sales from its private label brands, such as Food Club and Crav’n Flavor, from November 28th to December 3rd.

Finally, from December 4th to December 10th, proceeds from the Meat Department will also support the Sack Hunger initiative.

Big Y’s Sack Hunger program has been running for 14 years, providing millions of meals to individuals and families facing hardship. Each Big Y location plays an important role by donating food items like fresh meat, produce, and bakery goods to local food banks up to six days a week, year-round.

Through these efforts, Big Y aims to expand access to nutritious food and strengthen community support systems for those at risk of hunger.
