Baton Rouge weather: Warm and muggy ahead of a big drop in temperature

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Temperatures will continue to climb, along with the mugginess, before a powerful cold front late weekend.

TONIGHT: Skies will be mostly clear tonight and overnight lows will be in the mid 50s. Patchy fog will once again be possible overnight.

TOMORROW: Any fog that develops during the pre-dawn hours will clear out after sunrise. Skies will be mostly sunny in afternoon with highs around 80.

LOOKING AHEAD: Friday will be warm and muggy as Gulf moisture is pulled into south Louisiana and southwest Mississippi. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible Friday afternoon with highs in the 80s. The rain coverage will be minimal though. Saturday will be mainly dry with highs in the 80s once again. Big changes will begin to take place on Sunday as our next cold front moves through. This will be a strong cold front with polar air, sending high temperatures into the 50s on Monday and overnight lows in the 30s Monday morning and Tuesday morning. Our first frost and freeze of the season will be possible Tuesday morning.

All is quiet in the tropics as we finish out the last month of hurricane season. No tropical activity is expected over the next seven days.
