Armed homeowner kills cleaner who arrived at wrong house in Whitestown, Indiana
Staff report
WHITESTOWN, Ind. — Nov. 5, 2025 — A woman was shot and killed Wednesday morning after a cleaning crew mistakenly went to the wrong home in a Whitestown subdivision, according to the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department.
Officers responded at 6:49 a.m. to a 9-1-1 report of a “possible” residential entry in progress at a home in the Heritage subdivision, police said. When officers arrived, they found an adult woman with a gunshot wound and an adult man on the home’s front porch. Officers moved the woman to a safe location and attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later determined the people attempting to enter the home were members of a cleaning crew who had arrived at the wrong address, police said. Based on evidence collected so far, the facts “do not support that a residential entry occurred,” according to WMPD.
Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there is no known threat to public safety. Detectives are interviewing everyone involved, and crime scene investigators are collecting and analyzing evidence. WMPD said it is working with the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office and expects to release its next official update no sooner than next week.
The department urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information while the investigation continues. The woman’s identity was not released Wednesday. No additional details, including whether anyone has been detained or arrested, were immediately available.
