4-year-old dies after reported assault in Hudson; babysitter arrested
CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Hudson-area babysitter is being held on a $750,000 bond and could be facing additional charges after a 4-year-old boy who was in his care died from injuries he suffered in an alleged assault earlier this week.

Officers with the Hudson Police Department responded to a home along Hickman Avenue on November 4, where they found the child badly injured.

According to police, the injuries were caused by a man, identified as Thomas Lee Bryant, who had been babysitting the boy at the time.

The 4-year-old was first taken to a local hospital, then transferred to a regional trauma center for more advanced care. Tragically, he died from his injuries early Thursday morning, police said.

Bryant has been arrested and charged with felony child abuse, inflicting serious injury. He is being held at the Caldwell County Detention Center.

Police said the investigation is still active and that more charges are expected as detectives continue to collect evidence. Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to call the Hudson Police Department at 828-728-5021.
