Write-ins shake up contested Gilberton mayoral race

GILBERTON – The race for Gilberton Borough Mayor will not be decided Tuesday night.

Two candidates were on the ballot and it’s likely that neither candidate will assume the office next year.

Lloyd George was the top vote-getter on the ballot with 30 votes followed by Edward J. Martofel with 24.

However, there were 110 write-in votes cast.

Scattered signs for at least one write-in candidate were displayed around the borough.

The actual winner likely will not be known for at least a week, until write-in votes are tallied and a winner is verified.
