Warrant issued for suspect in Hinds County sergeant’s death

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police have identified the suspect they are searching for in connection to the shooting death of a Hinds County sergeant.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ladarien Tyrese Jones, 26. He is wanted for murder and auto theft.

The shooting occurred in the 1700 block of Dorgan Street on November 2, 2025.

According to police, the victim, Sgt. James Dotson, Jr., 32, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Interim Jackson Police Chief and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said Dotson was a member of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Raymond Detention Center.

According to police, Jones in the case stole Dotson’s vehicle, which was a gray 2020 Dodge Challenger. The vehicle was recovered in the parking lot of a north Jackson apartment complex on November 4, 2025.
