Santa Rosa man sentenced to 3 years for 9th DUI

(BCN) — A 78-year-old Santa Rosa man with nine drunk driving convictions was sentenced to three years in custody after pleading no contest to felony DUI charges, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office said.

Alberto Salgado-Gonzalez was sentenced Oct. 30 by Judge Laura Passaglia after admitting to driving under the influence of alcohol and acknowledging four prior DUI convictions within the past decade, a press release issued Tuesday said.

Prosecutors said the latest incident occurred on April 28, 2024, when Salgado-Gonzalez crashed his vehicle into a ditch. A breath test reportedly showed his blood alcohol level was 0.21, more than twice the legal limit.

At the time, he was under supervision following a previous felony DUI conviction, according to prosecutors.

District Attorney Carla Rodriguez said the three-year sentence was the maximum allowed by law.
“Three years in custody, minus credits, is an insufficient sentence for someone that simply refuses to stop driving drunk,” Rodriguez said. “Nevertheless, that is the maximum sentence allowed for this offense.”

After serving his sentence, Salgado-Gonzalez will be placed on post-release community supervision.
