RTA walks back fare hikes for CTA, Metra, Pace

CHICAGO — The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is walking back a request for fare hikes for the CTA, Metra and Pace, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

It comes just days after lawmakers approved a $1.5 billion transit bailout that Governor JB Pritzker is expected to sign.

The bill puts a one-year pause on new fare hikes, but does not take effect until June 1. That would have allowed the rate hikes to begin as planned in February.

Lawmakers who helped pass the bailout criticized the plan.
