RTA walks back fare hikes for CTA, Metra, Pace

It comes just days after lawmakers approved a $1.5 billion transit bailout that Governor JB Pritzker is expected to sign.

The bill puts a one-year pause on new fare hikes, but does not take effect until June 1. That would have allowed the rate hikes to begin as planned in February.

Lawmakers who helped pass the bailout criticized the plan.
