Nov. 5 is severe weather preparedness day in Georgia
Severe weather season typically runs from March to May with the peak occurring in April but we can also see an uptick in severe storms November through December. This secondary season can pack a punch with damaging winds, flooding and tornadoes, just like spring severe storms.
Having a plan:
Knowing exactly where to go before, during and after severe weather is key to stay safe in an already stressful situation.
“Know where you are going to go, whether it’s a loved one, family member or someone else that you can get to quickly during the watch and not wait for the warning to happen.” said Chance Corbett, Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Preparing a kit:
Use this day to update your kit with medications and items that may be needed after a severe weather event.
