Proposition 50, California’s answer to Republican redistricting efforts in Texas, passed overwhelmingly on Tuesday with more than 63% of the vote – and ballots are still being tallied.

The measure, backed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and party leadership, redraws California’s U.S. House districts to give Democrats a chance to gain five additional seats in Congress. Its passage is seen as a significant political maneuver to counterbalance Republican gains in other states ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

As expected, Prop 50 found lopsided support in the Golden State’s left-leaning coastal counties, while a handful of conservative inland counties voted no.

In Los Angeles County, 73% of voters backed the redistricting measure, while Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties saw narrower margins of 55% to 45%, 56% to 44%, and 57% to 43%, respectively.

Voters in several California counties, including Kern, Placer, Shasta, and Tulare, firmly rejected the measure. Use the interactive map below to search election results by county.
