The Yazoo Herald reported that Renshaw and Generrette Road residents have been told to evacuated. All other residents were encouraged to shelter in place.

The American Red Cross has opened a reception center in Yazoo City to support the affected residents. The center is located at Yazoo County High School, located at 191 Panther Drive.

Residents in the affected area are urged to follow evacuation instructions and avoid the impacted zone until further notice. Officials said air quality monitoring and hazardous materials teams are actively assessing the situation. Those who choose to come to the reception center should bring essential items they may need for an overnight stay, including:

  • Prescription medications and medical supplies
  • Important documents (ID, insurance, etc.)
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Cell phone chargers
  • Comfort items for children, if applicable

“We are here to support the Yazoo City community during this challenging time,” said Annette Rowland, regional communications director, American Red Cross Alabama and Mississippi Region. “Our priority is to ensure everyone has a safe place to go and access to the resources they need.”

CF Industries expects to provide additional updates on the incident.
