Driver arrested for DUI after allegedly driving over 100 mph

PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — The Utah County Sheriff’s Office arrested an individual for DUI who allegedly reached speeds of over 100 mph.

Ashlee Martinez, 39, has been arrested and booked for one count of possession or use of a controlled substance (third-degree felony), driving under the influence (Class B Misdemeanor), use or possession of drug paraphernalia (Class B Misdemeanor), driving on a suspended or revoked license (Class C Misdemeanor) and having an open container or drinking alcohol in a vehicle (Class C Misdemeanor).

Reportedly, a Utah County Sheriff’s Deputy observed Martinez travelling at 105 mph before exiting the freeway in Provo. Then, another deputy saw Martinez driving on residential roads in Provo. Based on radar, she was driving at 42 mph on a road with a speed limit of 25 mph.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop, where Martinez reportedly told him that she did not have a license, because it was suspended.

Additionally, the deputy observed that she had bloodshot and glossy eyes and the order of an alcoholic beverage. Martinez reportedly agreed to a field sobriety test, which she failed.

A K-9 unit also responded to the scene and conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle. Based on the results of the K-9 Unit, officers searched the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, they reportedly found a cup with liquid inside that smelled like alcohol, an open bottle of alcohol on the floor of the passenger side, and a small, clear jar with a white crystal-like substance inside it.

Officers field-tested the substance and found that it was positive for methamphetamine. There was also a glass pipe with a burnt residue in a sock. A breathalyzer test was conducted and showed that an interferent was detected.

However, Martinez allegedly stopped blowing into the breathalyzer once it hit .05, the legal limit. Blood and urine samples were taken from Martinez, and the urinalysis showed positive for multiple drugs and alcohol.

Martinez was taken into the Utah County Jail on November 4.
