Corcoran standoff suspect, missing for weeks, found dead; criminal charges dismissed

After going missing while being electronically monitored in September, court documents show a suspect behind an hourslong standoff with police has died.

Ryan Strandmark had his criminal case dismissed last week after police determined he had died on Sept. 25.

The charges against him stemmed from an incident in Corcoran, where he allegedly barricaded himself and a woman in a building on Cherry Lane on June 5, 2024.

The woman was Janna Cummins, who spoke with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS months after the ordeal.

Cummins, who had been in a relationship with Strandmark at the time, said the two had gotten into an argument over text messages, which quickly escalated.

Strandmark reportedly entered Cummins’ home with two guns, holding her at gunpoint, threatening to kill her. Cummins was able to convince Strandmark to let her use her work laptop to send an email, in which she sent a message to her boss to call 911.

After being a hostage for 8 hours, Cummins was released, unharmed, to the police. Strandmark, however, remained in the house for several more hours, eventually shooting himself before surrendering to police.

He was later charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and threats of violence.

During his court proceedings, Strandmark was found incompetent to stand trial multiple times.

A judge eventually approved Strandmark’s release to a group home on several conditions, including that he submit to electronic home monitoring.

However, in late August 2025, authorities stated that Strandmark “disappeared,” not returning to the group home.

“I’m still living my life in fear from him, and now, the worst-case scenario happened,” Cummins told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS when news of his disappearance first broke. “He didn’t return back to his group home, and now he’s missing. Who knows where he is?”

While court documents did not provide details in Strandmark’s passing, it stated he had died on Sept. 25, almost a month after he failed to return to his group home.

Criminal charges against him were later dismissed on the grounds that he could no longer be prosecuted due to his death on Oct. 27.
