Community Taco Feast to help those impacted by SNAP
TOPEKA (KSNT) – The community is coming together to support those affected by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) shutdown with a little food and a lot of fun.

The advocacy group “Feed the People,” of Topeka is organizing a Community Taco Feast from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the Gil Carter Initiative

located at 2620 South East 23rd St. It will be a day filled with food, music and games, but the group needs help to make it happen.

“The snap benefits shutdown has just really impacted a lot of our families in our community and I just wanted to get something together as quick as possible,” said Taz Isom, Feed the People Community Organizer. “It’s just a time for people to come together. In these times I think it’s very important for us to collaborate and to partner.”

Feed the People are currently accepting the following donations:

Food items:

  • Tortillas/Hardshells
  • Cheese
  • Tomatoes
  • Lettuce
  • Onions
  • Sour Cream
  • Salsa

Needed Supply Items:

  • Canned Drinks
  • Plastic/Styrofoam Cups
  • Styrofoam trays and Plates
  • Utensils
  • Napkins

You can donate these items at the following places:

  • Joyful Noise Daycare Center (130th SE 40th Terr.)
  • YWCA (225 SW 12th St.)
  • Flavor Wagon (2900 SE Kentucky)
  • Topeka Habitat for Humanity (121 NE Gordon St.)
