“His beloved wife of 61 years, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and other family members were with him as he passed,” Cheney’s family said in a statement released Tuesday morning. “The former Vice President died due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.”
On Tuesday, multiple Arkansas officials took to social media to share condolences and remember Chaney.
“Throughout his long career in public service, Dick Cheney was guided by a deep belief that he was doing what was right for America. Though we often disagreed, I always respected his dedication to our country and his unwavering sense of duty. My thoughts are with Lynne and the Cheney family.”
“Vice President Dick Cheney devoted his life to public service and national security, including fiercely championing America’s leadership abroad. He also loved his family dearly and leaves behind a legacy they and our country will long remember. Cathy and I send our sincere condolences to his loved ones and honor his many contributions to our nation.”
“My prayers are with the Cheney family following the passing of former Vice President Cheney. Dick Cheney was a dedicated public servant and committed to the safety and security of his fellow Americans. I first met him when he visited my battalion (Gunslingers) deployed to the Sinai, Egypt in 2002 and had the opportunity to reconnect with him years later fishing for cutthroat trout on the Snake River.”
“Dick Cheney dedicated his life to the service of our nation and the people of Wyoming. He was a constant champion for a dominant military, strong and confident American leadership, free markets, and individual liberty. I extend my condolences to his family and friends.”
“My condolences are with the family of former Vice President Dick Cheney as they mourn the loss of a husband, father, and grandfather.”
“Today, we remember and honor Vice President Cheney’s many years of dedicated service to our nation. I offer his family my deepest condolences. May he rest in peace.”
Cheney was the 46th vice president of the United States, serving under George W. Bush. He also served as a congressman representing Wyoming, White House chief of state and secreatary of defense.
