APD searching for suspect accused of committing 2 burglaries at Austin apartment complex

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is asking for the public’s help finding a suspect who allegedly committed two burglaries at a south Austin apartment complex in October, per a news release from APD.

According to APD, the burglaries happened at the Bennett Apartments, 7301 South Interstate 35 service road northbound. The first one happened on Oct. 1 at 9:45 a.m., and the second one happened on Oct. 21 around 6:40 p.m.

Police said the alleged suspect “may have been involved in other offenses related to property crime.”

“In both incidents, the suspect made entry into the apartment complex without authorization. While on the premises, the suspect entered the mail room and stole a large number of residents’ packages. This has created a number of challenges for both residents and the apartment complex,” APD said in the release.

Police described the suspect as:

• Black man
• Young in age
• Heavy build
• Medium-length dreadlocks with tight curls
• “R” tattoo on his right hand near the bottom of his thumb

A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest, according to police.
