Acclaimed local baker brings Philly-style hoagie shop to SF Embarcadero Center

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A new Philadelphia-inspired sandwich shop that highlights a locally acclaimed chef’s East Coast upbringing has officially opened its doors in a popular section of San Francisco.

And no, they’re not cheesesteaks.

Jerry’s Roast Pork, owned by Matthew Kosoy of Rosalind Bakery in Pacifica, is now open at 2 Embarcadero Center. Kosoy grew up in South Jersey near Philadelphia and wanted to honor his “beloved Philly roast pork sandwiches.”

The idea for the shop came after Kosoy, a self-taught baker, did several successful Philly cheesesteak pop-ups in Pacifica that created buzz and a want for more of his authentic take on other East Coast food staples.

“I grew up eating roast pork ‘hoagies’ in Philadelphia, and I’ve wanted to bring that experience to the Bay Area for years,” added Kosoy. “Jerry’s Roast Pork is about honoring those traditions while celebrating the incredible ingredients we have access to here in Northern California. We’re excited to be part of the revitalization of downtown San Francisco at Embarcadero Center.”

According to a press release, Jerry’s Roast Pork “brings together Northern California produce and seasonality with traditional East Coast sandwich craftsmanship.”

After only day one of being open for hungry customers, the shop says it’s already off to a great start.

“What a day! Thank you, SF! 🙌 Our first day at Jerry’s Roast Pork was one for the books. We sold out by noon (you’re the best), and we’re back at it today, so get here ASAP if you want to get your hands on these roast pork hoagies! 🐷,” wrote Jerry’s Roast Pork in an Instagram post Wednesday.

The opening menu features trademark hoagies, including the Garlic Roast Pork Hoagie and Vegetarian Hoagie, along with Jerry’s Salad, among other items. The menu will rotate seasonally, featuring locally sourced produce.

Jerry’s Roast Pork is open on the lobby level of 2 Embarcadero Center, Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
