Teacher of the Month: Adrienne Kell

TECUMSEH (KSNT) – Adrienne Kell has been named the 27 News October’s Teacher of the Month.

Kell, a pre-K teacher at Tecumseh North Elementary, has spent the last eight years focusing on social and emotional skills to prepare her students for kindergarten.

“This is my eighth year, so we opened the classroom eight years ago,” Kell said. “So, I’ve been the first pre-K teacher.”

Kell said she enjoys the ‘aha’ moments when her students learn something new. Kell lets her students choose topics they are interested in to engage them with real-life examples.

“They get to pick the topic,” Kell said. “Last week they chose apples. When I can bring real-life examples into the classroom, that’s what gets them excited.”

For Kell, teaching isn’t just a career; it’s a family tradition.

“My mom was a teacher… my aunt, my grandma my whole family,” Kell said. “I used to go to school with my mom and help her, so when I grew up, that’s what I wanted to do.”

Kell’s message to teachers everywhere is to keep going. She said it’s tough some days, but kids need you.

“If you’ve made that connection, it’s life-lasting,” Kell said.
