Southaven woman gets 25 years following guilty plea

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — A Southaven woman was sentenced to 25 years after pleading guilty to second-degree murder of a 65-year-old man, according to the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office.

Erin Malchow, 40, will serve out her sentence in the Mississippi Department of Corrections facility.

According to investigators in the case, Malchow bludgeoned the victim, Harvey Satterfield, on September 17, 2023.

He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

D.A. Matthew Barton gave a statement following her guilty plea.

“Based on Malchow’s age and health conditions, I doubt she lives through the day-for-day sentence she received,” said Barton. “If you commit a violent crime in DeSoto County, you’re getting real prison time, not a slap on the wrist.”
