Lawsuit: Indiana travel company ordered to cease operations for fraudulent timeshare transactions linked to Mexican city

(WXIN/WTTV): An Indiana travel company has been instructed to cease operating after Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita filed a lawsuit claiming the company was involved in fraudulent timeshare transactions.

The lawsuit was filed in Duboi County Superior Court against GoGo Travel Consulting LLC, a company based in Jasper has been judicially dissolved after Rokita and the Homeowner Protection Unit of the Consumer Protection Division uncovered evidence that it “engaged in illegal deceptive practices, including identity theft and fraudulent timeshare transactions.”

The company is alleged to have misrepresented the identity of a real estate broker licensed in Indiana, which Rokita said it then used to trick consumers into thinking they were interacting with an appropriate travel consulting service.

This eventually led investigators to Puerto Vallarta, a city based on the west-central coast of Mexico, where they determined the phone number GoGo Travel was utilizing during these transactions was linked to two Mexican nationals, who were allegedly involved in the scheme. Rokita said the number had been spoofed to make it appear that it originated in southern Indiana.

Additionally, two websites operated by GoGo Travel were issued takedown notices to help prevent more people from becoming targets of the scam.

“This judgment is one more example of our ongoing efforts to protect Hoosiers from fraudulent schemes,” said Rokita. “We will continue to hold accountable those who engage in these kinds of illegal activities. We encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of timeshare fraud to contact our office immediately.”

The complete dissolution order can be viewed online here.
