Ice cream recalled in multiple states due to allergy threat

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Federal officials say a type of chocolate ice cream bar sold in numerous states is being recalled due to an allergy risk for some consumers.

The Food and Drug Administration announced on Nov. 4 that Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. is voluntarily recalling a limited amount of its “Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars.” The recall was started after it was found the bars may contain undeclared wheat which poses an allergy risk for those who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat.

The FDA said the bars come in six-count packages bearing the batch code LLA519501 and a “Best By” date of Jan. 31, 2027. The recalled product was shipped to Kroger and Giant Eagle retail locations in the following states:

  • Kroger – Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
  • Giant Eagle – Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

No other Häagen-Dazs products or other batches are included in this recall. The FDA said no injuries have been reported yet in connection to the recalled product.

Customers who have a wheat allergy or sensitivity are encouraged to avoid eating the recalled ice cream and either return it or throw it away. If you have any questions about this recall, you can contact Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. by sending an email to dreyers@casupport.com or by calling 800-767-0120 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
