First American Nuclear to establish HQ, facilities in Indiana
According to a news release from First American Nuclear (FANCO), the company announced on Tuesday its plans to establish Indiana as the home of FANCO’s headquarters, manufacturing facilities and an energy park.
This comes after Braun signed six nuclear energy-related bills in early July. According to previous reports, the bills aimed at Indiana embracing the future of nuclear energy, helping position the state to be at the forefront of sustainable nuclear technology.
“Indiana is leading the nation in the next chapter of American energy independence,” Braun said in the release. “With First American Nuclear planting its roots here, we’re bringing 5,000 high-paying, generational Hoosier jobs while cementing our state as a leader in clean, reliable nuclear power.”
The release said that the energy park will be designed to be the first in U.S. history to operate in a “closed-fuel cycle.” Officials said this means it will “reprocess and reuse spent nuclear fuel on-site.”
“In the flurry of America’s nuclear renaissance, Indiana and FANCO found a shared commitment to technical merit, authenticity, and follow-through,” Mike Reinboth, the CEO of First American Nuclear, said in the release. “Collectively, our team has dedicated centuries to nuclear science, resulting in an unmatched nuclear solution that, fittingly, will take root in the crossroads of America.”
FANCO is expected to develop a program to attract and retain talent through partnerships with technical colleges and universities in the state of Indiana. The release said this will include tailored curricula, certifications and apprenticeships.
“Indiana and First American Nuclear joining forces to improve the quality of life for Hoosiers and the American people was an easy decision to make,” Suzanne Jaworowski, Indiana’s secretary of energy and natural resources, said in the release. “FANCO has the ability to deliver affordable, sustainable power to light up our rooms, keep us warm in the winter, cool in the summer and rise to the ever-increasing energy demands of an advanced manufacturing and computing economy.”
