SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — This election day, fake, AI generated election results have been circulating online, prompting Utah’s Lieutenant Governor to warn people against falling for them.

Utah Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson posted on her social media

to warn the public of the misinformation, writing, “DON’T BE FOOLED! We have been made aware of an AI generated image of fake election results that have been posted online. These are not real!”

Henderson included an image of one of these AI generated images in her post, which you can view below.

AI can create very convincing looking images, and this one looks almost exactly like the state’s official election results website. Because of that, it’s important to double check any information you see online when it comes to election results. You should only get results from that official website, which you can find here.

That official website shows that no results have been posted for any race.

Polls and ballot drop off box locations do not close until 8 p.m. tonight, and as Henderson stated in her post, no election results will be made available until after that happens.

ABC4 will also bring you live updates on election results on air and online once they are available.
