According to Rockford Police, officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of Harlem Boulevard at 7:55 p.m. on November 1st and located the shooting victim.
Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara issued a statement following the shooting, saying, “Last night, there was a shocking domestic incident of gun violence. I’m told the 13-year-old’s injuries are not life-threatening, which is absolutely the most important thing. It is a stark reminder that gun violence can happen anywhere, to anyone. We should never grow numb to this kind of violence. It is unacceptable. My thoughts are with the child, their family and the first responders who were called to this heartbreaking situation.”
The police force’s Violent Crimes Unit identified the suspect as an 11-year-old male.
Police said he was located in Machesney Park on Tuesday, November 4th and taken into custody.
In addition to the felony charges, the juvenile also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
