On Friday, around 6:30 p.m., surveillance video showed three men walk into the liquor store on SE 52nd Avenue and Powell Boulevard.
The footage shows them grab at least one bottle of alcohol off the shelf before making their way toward the door and hopping over a metal gate. Then an exterior camera captured the owner of the liquor store following the suspects outside.
Jennifer Fuller said her mother, Anna Hyde, reached into the suspects’ car to retrieve the stolen alcohol.
“They slammed the door on [her arm] and so it was trapped and caught and then they started to drive away, and she hit the ground,” Fuller said. “[She] hit the ground and completely broke the right side of her body and hit her head, and they dragged her through the gravel parking lot with her arm trapped in the car.”
Fuller said an employee at the store found her mother on the ground and called 911 so that paramedics could rush her to the hospital. She said her mother is in the trauma unit at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with several injuries, including a brain bleed.
“My mom is a healthy 73-year-old woman and has never broken a bone in her body and now is fighting for her life,” Fuller said. “She’s just been laying in the bed with a broken hip and femur that we now know was five breaks in her femur. Broken hand. She has a big laceration on her back. She has a big laceration on her hand, the gash on the back of her head.”
Portland police said its Major Crimes team is looking into the case.
“We’re begging for anyone to let us know more information so that we can provide that for the police,” Fuller said. “They can do what they need to do to be held accountable, to hold them accountable for this.”
Anyone with information about these suspects is encouraged to contact Portland police. A GoFundMe has been created to help the woman recover from the injuries.
