Spilled diesel causes chain-reaction crash in north Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Spilled diesel caused a chain-reaction crash in north Abilene Monday afternoon.

The crash happened on Loop 322 at the intersection with Interstate 20 around 2:30 p.m.

Police at the scene told KTAB and KRBC an 18-wheeler leaked diesel all over the inside lane of Loop 322, rendering a pickup truck unable to move from a stoplight because the tires kept spinning.

At the same time, police say an SUV came up behind the truck and was unable to stop because of the diesel, sliding into the back of the truck and then into a sign.

The driver of the SUV was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and no other injuries were reported.

Investigators did have the driver of the 18-wheeler that leaked the diesel stopped and identified.

The inside lane of Loop 322 is currently closed in this area, and no further information is available at this time as the investigation continues.
