FEMA posts final public notice of intent to help out KY

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – FEMA has posted a final public notice online announcing its intent to provide financial assistance to Kentuckians who experienced loss as the result of the May 16 through 17 severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes.

Officials say this notice applies to the Individual Assistance, Public Assistance and potential Hazard Mitigation grants programs implemented under the authority of the “Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.”

Officials say this public notice concerns activities that may affect historic properties, activities that are located in or affect wetland areas and the 100-year floodplain and activities that may involve critical actions within the 500-year floodplain.

According to FEMA, the projects covered under this notice must substantially conform to their pre-disaster design and dimensions, with allowances for minor upgrades incorporating flood hazard reduction techniques to minimize flood impacts. Additionally, upgrades may be incorporated in accordance with applicable codes, standards and best practice methods for repair.
