RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Election Day is upon us in North Carolina.

Registered voters across the state will have the chance to cast their ballots in several municipal races on Tuesday. These include the mayoral races in Durham, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Morrisville, Wake Forest, and Zebulon—among seats up for grabs on city councils and boards of commissioners across hundreds of NC municipalities.

Here’s an overview of what you need to be prepared to cast an Election Day ballot.

When are polls open?

As has been tradition since 1845, Election Day is held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. This year, that falls on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025.

Polling places are slated to be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Any voter in line at their assigned polling place at 7:30 p.m. will still be able to vote.

Am I registered to vote in NC?

It’s simple to find out if you are registered to vote.

You can check by entering your information into the Voter Search tool on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website. It will require your first and last names, and asks for your year of birth and the county you currently live in.

Where is my polling site?

In order to locate your polling places, enter your information into the same Voter Search tool as above, or you can search using your address with the Election Day Polling Place Search.

Who is on my ballot in this election?

Using the Voter Search tool, once you find and click on your name, you will scroll beyond the voter details, jurisdictions and polling site to find the “Your Sample Ballot” section.

The ballot should be titled “11/04/2025 MUNICIPAL.” Once chosen, a PDF version of your sample ballot should appear, showing the races and candidates you’re eligible to vote for.

What do I need to bring?

North Carolina voters will be required to show a photo ID when they check in at their polling place. That’s it.
