On Friday, Oct. 31, Monroe officers conducted a three-hour patrol of the downtown area after complaints regarding speeding and unsafe driving. Police said, “The purpose of the operation was to increase awareness and visibility in high-traffic areas to promote safe driving behavior.”
During the enforcement period, offciers issued a total of 51 citations:
MPD said they also made one fugitive arrest during the operation.
“We want to remind all drivers to monitor their speed and drive responsibly, especially in areas where pedestrian and business activity is high. Speeding and distracted driving not only endanger the driver but everyone sharing the roadway,” Police Chief Rhett Bolen said.
MPD said it will continue to proactive enforcement efforts to improve safety and address community concerns.
