According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 3800 block of Central Avenue to a report of a person shot around 3:13 p.m.
Once police arrived, they found two juvenile males near a vehicle with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals in critical condition.
According to IMPD, both victims suffered very “grave” injuries and were not expected to survive. One of the victims died at the hospital, IMPD said in an update on Monday.
Two firearms were recovered and SWAT was able to detain one person of interest who was barricaded inside the residence after they peacefully exited.
The roadway was closed for a significant time while IMPD continued its investigation.
It is believed to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.
“This is a senseless, senseless act of violence we find ourselves here time and time again,” said IMPD Officer Drew Brown. “Where we are responding to scenes where anger has taken over rational thought, and where anger has spiraled into some pulling the trigger on somebody. And affecting that person’s life.”
IMPD is asking anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475, Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477 or (TIPS) to remain anonymous.
