SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (
ABC4) — A suspect is in custody after an hours-long SWAT standoff in South Jordan involving shots fired at police early Sunday morning, according to South Jordan Police.
At around 2 a.m. on Nov. 2, police responded to a domestic violence call in the area of 10600 S Monica Ridge Way. As officers stood outside the residence, a shot was fired from inside the home in the direction of police.
As more officers arrived, the suspect fired more shots from inside the residence. Police issued a shelter-in-place order to neighboring homes as South Valley SWAT arrived on scene to take over operations.
“The suspect then barricaded inside the home,” a press release from South Jordan Police states. “Officers initially made telephone contact with the suspect who later ceased communicating with police.”
Police obtained an arrest warrant, and after three hours of attempted communication and standoff, the SWAT team entered the home and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was then taken to the hospital with minor injuries before being booked into jail.
“The shelter-in-place was lifted and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” the release states. “South Jordan investigators are currently processing the scene and the investigation remains ongoing. We appreciate the response of area agencies that assisted with this incident.”
