WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (
ABC4) — The man killed in a
paragliding crash in Washington County on Thursday has been identified, according to La Verkin Police.
The deceased paraglider has been identified as Miles Mitchell.
At around 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 30, Mitchell was paragliding through a canyon west of the La Verkin Bridge at Confluence Park. While in flight, Mitchell reportedly hit a power line stretching across the canyon, police said.
His chute reportedly collapsed upon impact, causing the aircraft to fall to the canyon floor below.
First responders from La Verkin Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue, and Intermountain Life Flight responded to the scene. Mitchell was given life-saving measures but was pronounced dead on scene.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing. However, officials said all evidence points to this being a “tragic accident,” La Verkin Police said in a press release.
The family has been notified and is receiving support from local authorities.
Confluence Park is located in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, spanning Hurricane and La Verkin.
