Jay Dalton Jones, 20, was charged in Cache County on Friday with aggravated kidnapping (first-degree felony), attempted homicide (first-degree felony), two counts of aggravated assault (third-degree felony), and assault (class-B misdemeanor).
According to North Park Police, Jones had an argument with a woman and struck her on the side of her face. The argument continued, and at one point, Jones “briefly strangled [her] with his arms around her neck,” arrest documents state.
The fight escalated and Jones retrieved a large knife, police said. He allegedly told the woman that she “wasn’t going anywhere” and pointed the knife at her.
While Jones was momentarily distracted, the woman reportedly ran to the front door of the residence to try to escape. Jones followed, police said, and stabbed her in the back, causing a wound “several inches deep.”
The woman was able to get out of the apartment and run to a parking lot as Jones chased after her, police said. Witnesses reported hearing screaming and seeing Jones run after the woman into the parking lot.
North Park officers responded to the scene and arrested Jones, who reportedly admitted to stabbing the woman.
Jones was booked in to Cache County Jail on the aforementioned charges. No further information is available at this time.
