Two major developments could bolster growth in Georgetown
Earlier this week, PEGATRON Corporation, a Taiwanese Electronics Manufacturing company, announced it acquired a 168,784-square-foot facility to build its first manufacturing facility in the United States at 610 Blue Springs Blvd., in Georgetown.
Construction on the facility will start later this year.
“Texas is a global leader when it comes to advanced tech and AI,” Adriana Cruz, Executive Director of the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, within the Office of the Governor, said in a press release. “The location of this project will make a lasting impact on Texas’ growing tech infrastructure, while reinforcing the power of the ‘Made in Texas’ brand.”
Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool (TML Risk Pool) also announced it is moving its new headquarters to Georgetown. TML Risk Pool will acquire the former Wesleyan building at 205 E. University Avenue, which would become the Texas Municipal Center.
The building would go through a complete a full renovation. The renderings of what the building is set to look like once construction is completed in 2029 are provided below.
“Cities are coming in throughout the state to meet, having meetings,” said Nick Woolery, Georgetown’s Assistant City Manager. “We get that convenient access to where if there’s a city who’s doing something great that we want to learn from…we can meet with them, learn from them.”
“There’ll be city managers, city council peoples, coming in from all over the state all the time just because TML is here,” said Josh Schroeder, the Mayor of Georgetown. “With Pegatron, I think we have the opportunity to become the server manufacturing center of the United States here in Central Texas.”
With these two investments, both Schroeder and Woolery emphasized the growth could pose challenges in the city, but also good opportunities.
“Under Texas law, there’s not much you can do to stop growth—we can only deal with growth,” Schroeder said. “We’re very fortunate to be living in a community that other people want to come to.”
