The Department posted on Facebook that the candy was handed out to trick-or-treaters Friday in the Jackson County Square.
“At this time, we cannot verify that any candy handed out on the square, or anywhere in the city, has been altered or contains any controlled substances,” the Department wrote.
Spokesperson Lt. Coty Durham said a couple of people were admitted to the hospital but there were no overdoses. He said this is an active investigation and the Department hasn’t received any candy yet for testing.
The Scottsboro Police Department encourages parents to inspect their children’s candy. If it appears “suspicious, unwrapped, or tampered with, please throw it away immediately.”
