CHICAGO (WGN) — A Chicago police officer was injured Saturday after a suspect struck a squad car and an officer with a vehicle during a pursuit on the South Side, authorities said.

Just after 5:30 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Cottage Grove, officers responded to a report of a person with a gun, according to Chicago police.

Officers spotted a man matching the description given by callers getting into a Chevy Impala. When officers attempted to intervene, the man fled in the vehicle.

During the attempted escape, the suspect rammed a marked police car and hit an officer, police say.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition was not disclosed.

The suspect continued driving until the 4100 block of South Indiana Avenue, where officers took him into custody. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
