WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — A West Jordan man has been charged with 15 felonies after he allegedly abused his child and stepchild and gave them sex toys.
The 40-year-old man, who ABC4 is not identifying in order to protect the victims, was charged with 12 first-degree felonies, including sodomy upon a child, object rape, and rape of a child, and three third-degree felony counts of distributing material harmful to a minor.
According to charging documents, the investigation began when an FBI agent investigated an unrelated report of sexual abuse. A search warrant in that unrelated investigation was served on the man’s home, and after he was taken into custody, he allegedly confessed to sexually abusing one of his children.
Reportedly, his stepchild told investigators that he was sexually abusing both the stepchild and one of his biological children. The victim said that he gave them “sexual toys” and attempted to get them to perform oral sex on both the toys and on him. He also allegedly told the victim to “practice with” the toys.
The victim also reported that he allegedly showed them pornography and told police that the abuse began when they were around 8 years old. The abuse allegedly usually happened on Sundays, because their mother would leave the home to go to church.
His biological child also reported being abused by the man to investigators. As part of the abuse, the children performed sexual acts on each other. They reported one incident that happened while their mother was also in the room, and she apparently didn’t say anything.
While being interviewed by police, the man allegedly admitted to “accidentally” downloading child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and then deleting it. He reportedly told police that the abuse began because the stepchild was “sexually curious,” and he also admitted to giving his stepchild the sex toy.
The man is currently being held in jail on a no bail warrant. His initial court experience is scheduled for the beginning of November.
