Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders assists Arkansas food banks amid government shutdown

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she will direct $500,000 to six food bank networks across the state amid the government shutdown.

On Thursday, Sanders secured emergency action from the Arkansas Legislative Council chairs to direct the funds in Restricted Reserve to food banks starting Monday, Nov. 3.

The following food banks that will receive funding are:

  • Northwest Arkansas Food Bank at Springdale
  • Food Bank of North Central Arkansas at Norfork
  • Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas at Jonesboro
  • River Valley Regional Food Bank at Fort Smith
  • Arkansas Foodbank at Little Rock
    • Arkansas Foodbank Lexa Branch
    • Arkansas Foodbank Warren Branch
  • Harvest Regional Food Bank at Texarkana

Sanders announced that she will also consider additional allocations on a weekly basis as the shutdown continues.

The governor added that state residents can assess food assistance resources in Arkansas through the HelpArkansas.com page on her website, which will be updated as the shutdown continues.
