BATON ROUGE, La. (
Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man has been arrested after allegedly shooting another man in the face.
According to an affidavit, Baton Rouge Police officers responded to the 2500 block of Citi Place Court on Wednesday for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the mouth. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators said two people were detained at the scene for questioning. A witness told detectives they were sitting in a car with Trevonne Thompson, 26, when another vehicle pulled in front of them, attempting to block them in. The witness said they drove off, but the other vehicle followed. After circling the parking lot several times, the vehicle eventually stopped following them.
When the witness returned to the front of the hotel, they saw the victim standing near the entrance. The witness said Thompson got out of the car and began fighting with the victim before shooting him. The witness said they tried to intervene, but Thompson continued to follow the victim while armed.
Detectives said Thompson admitted to firing one shot after the victim allegedly punched him. He also claimed he believed the victim had stolen his car keys earlier, though he did not see the theft occur.
Police reviewed surveillance footage showing a brief chase through the parking lot, followed by the victim swinging at Thompson before Thompson fired. The video then shows the victim running into the hotel as Thompson and the witness followed.
Thompson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons. His bond was set at $100,000, according to jail records.
