14-year-old’s auto theft crime spree spanned four days across East Bay: PD

(KRON) — A 14-year-old Pinole boy was arrested for allegedly taking part in an auto theft spree that spanned across numerous incidents over a four-day span, said the Berkeley Police Department.

BPD said its officers responded to the intersection of Adeline Street and Ashby Avenue at 10:47 p.m. Monday to investigate a report of a car window smashed.

“Based on the description of the suspect and specific manner of the crime, officers believed this may have been done by a teen suspected of committing numerous crimes over the past 3-4 days,” said Berkeley police in a statement to KRONN4.

Berkeley police said its officers located the suspect parked with a car cover on the 800 block of Cornell Street Tuesday at 7 a.m.

“Noting the shape of the covered vehicle might be a Kia Soul, officers surrounded the vehicle before lifting the car cover — preventing the suspect’s escape,” added police.

The juvenile faces several charges of evading the police, vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The boy was then taken to juvenile hall. Police did not disclose if his parent(s) or guardian(s) were notified of the alleged crimes.
