WATCH: New footage shows moments before and after ICE arrest in SLC airport

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — New footage acquired by ABC4 shows the moments leading up to the arrest of a woman by ICE in the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Earlier this week, a woman was detained by plainclothes Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers (ICE) in the Salt Lake City International Airport.

ABC4 has acquired additional footage through a public records request to the SLC airport depicting the moments leading up to and following the arrest. While the detained woman has been publicly identified as 39-year-old Marta Brizeyda Renderos Leiva, ABC4 has chosen to blur her face due to the sensitive nature of the arrest.

The video shows ICE officers with nothing identifying them as federal agents following Leiva down an escalator, before detaining her. ICE later stated that she had been in the country illegally since 2007 and had received a final order of removal in absentia in 2020.

Then, the officers take her into an elevator, where Leiva is barefoot on one of her feet and wearing a sock on the other.

The elevator footage shows that the officers have nothing identifying themselves as federal agent. Later footage shows the ICE officers taking Leiva to the terminal drop-off and pick-up area at the airport.

The officers took Leiva to a vehicle, at which point they provided her with shoes, before detaining her inside the vehicle.

Another video, posted yesterday by author Shannon Hale, quickly went viral and led to individuals questioning how the operation was conducted by ICE.

In the video, four plainclothes ICE officers approach the woman and stop her. As she attempts to walk away, one of the officers grabs her and they force her to the ground to handcuff and detain her. Then, the officers escorted her to the elevator and out of the airport.

According to ICE, Leiva is from El Salvador and will be deported back there. ICE officials have not provided any other comments on this incident.

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall released a statement on this situation and said, “I am left wondering and aching from the fear and pain these types of operations keep striking in my heart and the hearts of so many of us.”

Reportedly, the ICE agents identified themselves to a nearby Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) officer.
