Warrant issued for suspect in deadly hit-and-run crash on Indy’s northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS — An arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect who police say ran over a man on Indy’s northwest side, leaving him for dead without stopping or calling 911.

Dominique Lamont King, 32, was charged this week in Marion County Court with two counts of felony obstruction of justice and leaving the scene of a deadly accident. Online records show a warrant for his arrest is active as of 11:30 a.m. Friday.

King is accused of being the driver who crashed into Avery Devon Neal earlier this month on Michigan Road, leaving the scene without helping the 32-year-old pedestrian who eventually died.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police officers were called just after 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 4, 2025, to the 6800 block of Michigan for a person hit by a car. Upon arrival, officers located Neal suffering from grave injuries in the roadway. He was later pronounced deceased by medics on scene.

Detectives determined that an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on Michigan Road when it struck Neal, who was walking from the east side of the street to the west side. Investigators recovered several pieces of debris and broken plastic on scene, including chunks of a blue driver’s side mirror.

A part number on the partial mirror revealed that the car was a 2010-2019 Ford Taurus. While reviewing license plate reader footage from the area, officers spotted a blue 2015 Ford Taurus registered to a person with the last name King.

Detectives determined that the Taurus had been “repeatedly seen in the vicinity of 1600 Lafayette Road and Kessler Boulevard,” court documents show. Then, while canvassing that area on Oct. 8, officers saw a blue Ford Taurus parked at a local collision repair shop.

The car reportedly had driver’s side damage consistent with the crash, and police said pieces recovered from the scene fit together in a “jigsaw puzzle fashion.” The VIN confirmed that it was the same vehicle that was spotted along Michigan Road on the night of the crash.

Detectives spoke with the shop owner, who said that a man named Dominique King had brought in the car for repairs. Before leaving the shop, King had allegedly removed the license plate from the Taurus and taken it with him.

After filing a warrant for his cell phone records, investigators received results on Oct. 23 that reportedly placed King in the 6800 block of Michigan Road on the night that Neal was hit and killed. Additionally, the data showed King was at the auto repair shop on Oct. 6.

A probable cause affidavit charging King with several felonies was filed on Oct. 29 in Marion Superior Court 29. A warrant has since been issued for King’s arrest.

This is not the first time that King has been in criminal trouble in Marion County. In 2017, King pled guilty to dealing in cocaine and carrying a handgun without a license.

He was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison and one year of probation. For more on that case, click here.

Online court records show King was arrested again in 2021 on cocaine and resisting arrest charges. In that case, he pled guilty to one count of dealing cocaine and was sentenced to two years of home detention and two years of probation.
