ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (
KLFY) — Two men were cited for allegedly killing, cleaning, skinning and hiding a spotted fawn, authorities said.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents, with the assistance of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, cited Christian Harvey, 22, of Madisonville, and Alex Lejeune, 21, of Opelousas, for intentional concealment of wildlife. Agents also cited Harvey for taking a spotted fawn.
LDWF received information from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office about a freshly harvested spotted fawn in the bed of a pickup truck during a traffic stop. Agents responded to the area and located the vehicle at a nearby hunting camp.
During the time between the traffic stop and the agents’ arrival, Harvey and Lejeune allegedly cleaned the spotted fawn and buried the hide in an attempt to conceal evidence, officials said.
Agents found them in possession of a freshly cleaned deer, found where the hide of the deer was buried and recovered a freshly removed hide of a spotted fawn.
Agents seized the deer carcass and donated it to a local charity, officials said.
Taking or possessing a spotted fawn carries a $500 to $750 fine and up to 30 days in jail. Intentional concealment of wildlife carries a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Harvey may also face civil restitution totaling $400 for the replacement value of the deer, authorities said.
