OGDEN, Utah (
ABC4) — A second suspected shooter in the
Oct. 7 shooting near Ben Lomond High School that
killed 16-year-old Mason Caballero has been charged as a juvenile with aggravated murder.
The suspect, a 15-year-old male, was taken into custody in Denver, Colorado, by local Colorado law enforcement. ABC4.com will not be identifying him.
According to Captain Tim Scott with Ogden City Police Department, a 16-year-old was shot and killed at the location of 5th and Grammercy Avenue in Ogden, Utah.
The juvenile was transported to Utah where he was charged with aggravated murder (a first-degree felony) two counts of attempted aggravated murder (a first-degree felony) 25 counts of felony discharge of a firearm (a first-degree felony) and possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor (a first-degree felony).
Father charged with obstruction of justice
According to the charging documents, the father of the suspect, Fernando Renteria, 41, allegedly helped the suspect escape the Ogden area following the shooting and took him to Las Vegas.
Renteria has been charged with two counts of obstruction of justice (capital or first-degree felony conduct), which is a second-degree felony.
First suspect charged
Isaias Emanuel Carranza, 16, the first suspect in the case, was taken into custody on Oct. 11.
Carranza has been charged with one count of aggravated murder (first-degree felony), two counts of attempted aggravated murder (first-degree felony), 25 counts of felony discharge of firearm (first-degree felony), and one count of possession of dangerous weapon by minor (second-degree felony).
