MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Monroe Police Department has arrested a 71-year-old Monroe man following a report of him displaying a firearm during a road rage incident on U.S. Highway 74.

The victim reported that the gun had been pointed at them while driving down the road. They also provided cell phone video showing the driver holding a handgun in his left hand and tapping it on the door of the vehicle.

The vehicle, identified by license plate, was traveling westbound on U.S. 74, where traffic was backed up due to an earlier collision.

A short time later, Monroe Police, along with Fire Personnel on scene, spotted the truck in traffic and safely conducted a stop.

Two untraceable handguns were found in the truck, both lacking serial numbers and appearing to be “ghost guns.”

A records check revealed the driver, Curtis Ciampo, 71, has a prior felony conviction.

Ciampo was arrested and charged with Simple Assault and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
