Opelika man taken into custody after being accused of burglary

AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) — Officials with the Auburn police said on Thursday that a man was taken into custody after being accused of burglary near Covington Ridge.

According to Auburn police, officers arrested 50-year-old Demetrius Lavon Kelly for charges of second-degree burglary.

The arrest comes after Auburn police received a report of a burglary at a residence that’s located in the 1700 block of Covington Ridge early Monday morning.

The victim told police that Kelly reportedly entered his home unlawfully, but left when he realized it was occupied.

Officers then searched for the suspect and found him attempting to leave the area on foot.

Kelly was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Lee County Jail on a $5,000 bail.
