Meet the Creek Chubs, Kokomo's new baseball team
The City of Kokomo made the announcement today that its newly established collegiate summer baseball team has officially been named the Creek Chubs. The name draws inspiration from the creek chub, a freshwater fish indigenous to Indiana’s lakes and streams.
The creek chub, or Semotilus, is notably found in Wildcat Creek, which flows adjacent to the outfield fences of the team’s Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
“The creek chub is small but tough — it thrives in our waters and reflects the determination, pride and perseverance of the City of Kokomo,” a news release read.
The team’s color scheme includes navy blue, teal and silver, symbolizing the colors of “water, blending depth, freshness and modern vibrancy.”
“The name Creek Chubs captures both the personality of Kokomo and the environment that surrounds us,” said Joe Thatcher, Kokomo native, former Major League pitcher, and part of the team’s ownership group. “As we embark on this new chapter of baseball in Kokomo, we sought a team name that embodies the fun and energetic spirit mirroring the decades of passion shown by local baseball fans here in this great community.”
The Creek Chubs will play in the Prospect League collegiate summer baseball league. They now join the Richmond Flying Mummies as two of Indiana’s newest baseball teams.
The team will play its inaugural season in the summer of 2026 at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. For more information on the team’s development, click here. To read the City’s full release, click here.
