IU Bloomington Chancellor refutes censorship claims in new letter

Bloomington, Ind. – October 31, 2025

In a letter published in the Indiana Daily Student, Chancellor David Reingold says the pause of IDS print editions was a budget decision—not retaliation—and that IU “has never attempted to censor editorial content.” He adds the IDS remains editorially independent and acknowledges poor timing/communication fueled a false perception. Reingold also notes long-term financial challenges and says IDS leaders will have a seat at the table as a task force works on sustainability.
